History of the Before & After School Program
East Grand Church of Christ has always been a community focused family and in 1999 a ministry outreach program was established to reach the needs of Bingham Elementary School.
Bingham is located just a few steps away from East Grand. As a Title 1 school, Bingham has limited means to support special needs, including one-on-one help, before and afterschool programming and social development activities. East Grand felt this was a perfect opportunity to provide needed support within the community.
The growing program has positively impacted hundreds of children and families within the Bingham community and has provided Church members with volunteer opportunities to give back to the community.
During this time it was obvious there was a need for before and after school care and support for Bingham students. As a result, the Before & After School Program was created and began offering services in the fall of 2002.
In order to expand the opportunities to bring support to this community, East Grand Community Services (EGCS) was established as a separate entity to continue the work the church began. The East Grand Community Services Board was established in January of 2004. This Board now governs the policies and procedures of the East Grand Community Services, as well as serves as a leadership body to promote growth and further excellence in the program.
We now accept online tuition payments!
Two out of every five Greene County families with children under 18 now live in poverty according to reporting in the Springfield NewsLeader, September 2013. Springfield’s poverty is exemplified by the school district’s skyrocketing free and reduced-price lunch rate.
